Haeundae beach on a Sunday afternoon in early September. September and October are perhaps the best months to enjoy the beaches in Busan. Indeed, June and July are characterized by heavy rains on most days while August is...

..a little bit crowdy. Where are all these people coming from..? Many are from Busan but most are from other cities in Korea. August is the vacation season and Haeundae beach is one of the three most famous beaches in the country (the other two are Sokcho beach near Mt. Soraksan and Jungmun beach in Jejudo island). Busan is also popular with Japanese tourists, with more than 30 direct flights per day from Tokyo, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Osaka to Gimhae international airport (located about 30 kms west of Busan).

During August, some events and festivals take place on the beach. In this case, the organizers invited some people from the crowd to come on stage and sing their favourite song. The ladies we see in this picture sang "Love and War" by Davichi, a Korean pop duo that reached national stardom in 2008.

A picture taken in February looking west towards Marina City. Marina "City" is a district of Busan with one of the highest cost of home ownership. For instance, an apartment in one of those tall 40+ story skyscrapers in the distance costs approximately 0.8 billion Korean wons (about 0.7 million US dollars) for a size of 100 square meters. In other areas of the city, an apartment of the same size and same quality would sell for 3-4 times less.

Another picture of Haeundae beach in February, taken from more or less the same spot as the previous one but this time looking east towards the Dalmaji Hill. Linking Marina City to the Dalmaji Hill, Haeundae beach stretches over a distance of about 1.6 km.
